The PhotoLibrary is where all the images can be browsed and filtered, while the Customize section is for all the editing. Just like any competent RAW converter, there are two main areas for image organization and for editing. Therefore, you will have to look elsewhere for your RAW conversions.

One other point that will save Fuji owners some time: the software is incompatible with Fujifilm X-Trans files. This is a great way to try out the software if you’re already interested in the Nik Collection, but there doesn’t seem to be a discount if you already own the full-blown version. The Nik Collection comes bundled with the Essential version. These additional software add-ons offer functionality such as filmic tools and corrections. The Elite version owns the most features, but there is also a slight upsell in the form of the DxO FilmPack and ViewPoint 3. However, with stiff competition from Lightroom, can DxO PhotoLab 3 check all the boxes for not just being a great RAW converter, but also an image management tool? Interface The software is available in two flavors, the Essential and Elite editions. As the company also owns the long-standing and highly-regarded Nik Collection, some of these technologies have filtered through. DxO PhotoLab 3 is one of the many RAW converters out there, with its main focus being on quality of output and lens correction.

It was shot on a7RIII ISO 25,600 f1.4 1/200.No matter the software you currently use for editing and managing your RAW files, use it for long enough and you will always be itching for extra features. The image below looked at least one stop darker to the naked eye. Not everyone needs DeepPRIME, but if you shoot a lot at high ISO and really need to squeeze the best IQ out of every file, it's a no-brainer. $80 for the upgrade, or even $200 for first purchase, is a pittance for the capabilities it offers. To get the same results via hardware upgrades would cost me many thousands of dollars. And, if you need what it does, it's super-cheap, too. And, unlike some other apps, applying DeepPRIME is a one-click batch operation - no tweaking needed. This speedup has been transformative for my high-volume tight-deadline workflow.

And, on my $999 M1 MacBook Air or $1099 Mac mini, PhotoLab 5 Elite does noise reduction processing 6x-8x faster than I experienced just one year ago on my fire-breathing custom-upgraded 8-core $5000 cylinder Mac Pro, outputting 42MP JPEGs in 10 seconds each. This combo is amazingly liberating for low-light work. With DeepPRIME and bright primes on my a7RIII, I'm getting very clean results at ISO 25,600 in truly dark environments, letting me work without flash while still delivering the image quality my clients expect. DxO provides a free trial of PhotoLab 5, and you can purchase the ELITE version for €219 ($250). Fujifilm claims that it creates extra detail and does away with the need for an anti-aliasing filter, but the more complex mosaic means that processing the raw files is more challenging and many software manufacturers - Adobe included - have run into issues in the past.ĭxO’s new DeepPRIME technology seems to produce some excellent results, as this video demonstrates, deploying deep learning to process the raw data in order to remove a fair chunk of the noise produced when shooting at high ISO levels. Most of Fujifilm’s APS-C cameras use the company’s own X-Trans filter in front of the sensor, replacing the classic Bayer filter found in most cameras and providing a few advantages and disadvantages. If you shoot at high ISO levels, you might want to check out what this software can do when it comes to removing noise and increasing detail.
